red rock canyon- las vegas

I love visiting Las Vegas- we've found some fun things to do there! This time we found Red Rock Canyon with lots of hikes to choose from.  I can't wait to get back there again.

It's a little different hiking in the desert. Amazing and beautiful though. You can just drive the 13 mile loop ($7 per car) or get out on one of the many hikes. We passed the actual red rocks and went to "Lost Creek" which is less than a mile round trip- perfect for kids. The weather was in the 70's at 9:00 AM when we started- perfect.

The boys are always excited to explore new places.
The hikers- Cody, Ames w/ Baby Will, Tanner, Elliott, Oliver, Kenzie, Megs and Adam.
Adam even wore shorts for the occasion.

Desert plants are cool.

Elliott found and caught two toads on this hike! The first one he carried for a while until we coaxed him to leave it with it's family. The second one was a little harder to leave. He wanted to take it home and carried it for the last half of the hike. Cute little toad. He made a song sound rather than a croak. Almost like a cricket?

The trail ends at this little waterfall, which is only supposed to run January through March, but there was still a little trickle. A treat for the kids.

These white rocks and sand were so beautiful! And fun to explore.
I wasn't prepared to hike on this trip, but I knew I had
to bring snacks and water... so a Target bag had to do.
Cody, Collin, Kenzie, Amy and Baby Will- making his first hike at 7 weeks!

Megs and I had fun taking LOTS of pictures with our twin cameras.

Tanner on lookout.

We loved getting out of the city for this little hike. And the desert holds amazing beauty! Maybe next time you have some time in Vegas, you can plan a hike at Red Rock too? Although, if you're going in the summer make sure to start early to beat the heat!

I want to be part of this club. It looks kid friendly. How do I join?
